ABOUT US

OUR STORY

Listen in as the leadership team of ONE AT THE WELL shares how the organization began, how it's grown and what you can do to get involved!

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

ONE AT THE WELL

Formed in 2018 in Hedgesville, West Virginia, ONE AT THE WELL is a 501(c3) non-profit organization that provides care and support to local women in the adult entertainment industry.

By regularly visiting local strip clubs, providing meals, gifts, and other means of support, ONE AT THE WELL volunteers seek to build relationships with women who otherwise would have little or no interaction with the faith-based community.  In doing so, ONE AT THE WELL prayerfully hopes to inspire these women to pursue a relationship with Christ and to seek a career outside the adult entertainment industry.

OUR STORY

"It started with a vivid dream I had in which I was trapped in a large purple room with no exits and I could not escape the unwanted advances of a man there. As panic began to rise within me, suddenly a wall opened up and I ran as fast as I could toward the light. There was a police officer in the parking lot so I ran to him and was safe. I woke up with the certainty that this dream was significant. Before I had this dream, I had been reading about a ministry to strippers in Louisville, Kentucky called Scarlet Hope, and was inspired by the possibility of beginning a local outreach to strippers in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, which is littered with multiple strip clubs in a relatively small geographical area. I shared my ideas with a couple of friends in my church and told them about my dream." – Amanda

"I had been praying and felt the Lord pushing me to get out of my safe “Christian bubble.” I told the Lord I was willing to be obedient but, "You need to show me what you want me to do, Lord!" My answer came a few days later when Amanda, another friend, and I were painting a bathroom in our church. Amanda shared with us her dream and inspiration to begin a ministry to strippers in our local area. I knew this was what God was asking me to do."  – Jessica

We didn't have everything figured out but there was a sense of urgency in our conversation that we needed to 'do something' about the strip clubs in our own backyard."

And that’s when the concept for ONE AT THE WELL was born. In April 2018, they prayerfully took the initiative to personally visit a local strip club in Berkeley County, West Virginia, make contact with the club owner and dancers, and bring home-cooked meals and gifts as a gesture of kindness. After consistent visits, they became known as "the church ladies," and were welcomed – and even expected – as regular guests into the local strip club.  Because of the non-judgmental love and respect they showed the dancers, bartenders, and managers, they saw their fledgling ministry continue to grow and expand.

Friends and fellow believers heard of their project and volunteered to join their efforts.  A core leadership team was formed as they shared the responsibilities for preparing meals, scheduling visits, coordinating with prayer supporters, and following up with dancers. In the spring of 2020, they began to lay the groundwork to secure non-profit status. On August 6, 2020, their application was approved and they became a certified non-profit ministry in West Virginia known as ONE AT THE WELL.

The ministry name, ONE AT THE WELL, is based on the story of Jesus' love and intentional ministry to the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4), and Jesus' emphasis about the importance of THE ONE in the parable of the Good Shepherd (Matthew 18 and Luke 15), who willingly left the 99 in search of the ONE lost sheep.

Today, the team continues to visit and serve women in the adult entertainment industry, with a specific focus on clubs in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.

Through the financial aid and prayer support of people who share their vision, ONE AT THE WELL hopes to increase their presence and coverage at the local clubs, and eventually offer more robust mentorship, training, and resources to women who want to leave this toxic industry.

OUR MISSION

OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Bringing the love and hope of Jesus to women in the adult entertainment industry.

John 4 records the story of Jesus intentionally going out of his way to visit a well in Samaria to extend love and hope to just ONE woman, a woman of questionable reputation.

In the parable of the lost sheep recorded in Matthew 18:12-14 and Luke 15:4-7, Jesus reminds us he willingly leaves the 99 in search of the ONE that is lost.

These stories reflect our story of love and concern for women in the adult entertainment industry and inspired our name, ONE AT THE WELL.

Our story is also a story of ONE . . .

  • ONE woman who was inspired by the ministry of Scarlet Hope.
  • ONE woman who said, "Let's pray about it," when a friend suggested they visit the club.
  • ONE woman who had a vivid dream compelling her to get involved in the ministry.
  • ONE woman who felt God calling her to come out of her "Christian bubble."
  • ONE woman whose heart was broken when a high schooler commented about her future plans, "The only options I see are to be a drug dealer or a stripper."

God divinely brought each of these women together to form ONE AT THE WELL, and our prayer is that you will answer the call as well.

Your ONE step of faith can impact ONE woman’s life for an eternity.  Thank you in advance for your prayers and support!
